Watford Community Housing support Watford Foodbank with a large donation

On Tuesday 17 October, staff from Watford Community Housing marked World Food Day by sharing their favourite regional dishes and donating to Watford Foodbank, helping to support those in need in the local area.

Colleagues brought in food from across the world, including Ukraine, South Asia, South Africa, Poland and much more. The staff understand the privileged position they are in to be able to prepare and share food with each other, so they decided to use this day as an opportunity to support local families who may be struggling at the moment.

Due to the generosity of staff, Watford Community Housing managed to donate 10 large shopping bags-worth of food to Watford Foodbank. This included items the foodbank is in desperate need of, such as tinned fish, tinned tomatoes and jars of pasta sauce.

The event was organised by Richard Walsham, Watford Community Housing’s Finance Business Partner. He said: “We are incredibly proud to be able to use this national holiday to help out families most in need, as well as to celebrate the diverse culture of our workforce. As a community gateway housing association, our tenants and local communities are at the heart of what we do, so when an opportunity arose to support them, our staff jumped at the chance.

“Watford Foodbank are struggling with donations at the moment, and with Christmas coming up the number of families using it will increase. We want to encourage our staff and anyone in the position to do so to continue to help out if they can.”
