Watford Community Housing receives prestigious health and safety awards

Watford Community Housing has received two prestigious health and safety management awards from the British Safety Council – the Sword of Honour and the Not-for-Profit Sector Award.

The Sword of Honour award recognises that health and safety is a priority for Watford Community Housing, from Board-level governance to frontline operations. It reflects their commitment to staff safety, as well as the care and dedication to keeping their customers and communities safe.

A physical sword was presented to Watford Community Housing at a ceremony hosted by the British Safety Council, where they also won the Not-for-Profit Sector Award which recognises the overall ‘best in class’ submissions by industry sector.

Watford Community Housing were eligible to apply for the Sword of Honour after achieving a maximum five-star rating in a rigorous occupational health and safety audit earlier this year. Through a detailed application and independent adjudication process, they had to demonstrate that they are operating to the very highest standards of health and safety, shown through strong leadership and it being embedded into their organisational culture.

This achievement places Watford Community Housing among a small group of organisations who meet these high standards and are one of just a few housing providers to gain this level of recognition.

Sarah Edwards, Corporate Governance and Health and Safety Manager, said:

“It was an honour to attend the ceremony and walk away with two incredible awards from the British Safety Council.

“It is the collaboration between staff, residents and contractors that helps us to achieve the highest standards of health and safety management, and going forward we will continue to build on this strong foundation, learn from best practice, and drive excellence in health and safety at Watford Community Housing.”
